Generating Leads Story
I dearly miss my friend and one of the best tour guides I ever partnered with leading trips to Israel – Guy Bar Yosef of blessed memory. He used to tell the following story to help set the stage for the participants’ trip to the holy land. He explained that the US had just elected a brand new President and he was visiting the Pope. On the Pope’s desk he saw a red phone. The President asked the Pope, who has a red phone on his eminence’s desk? The Pope answered that it is the G-d phone. He offered the President the chance to use it but warned that it is very expensive and costs five hundred thousand dollars per minute. The President replied, well I can really use some good advice and I can afford it and asked to use the phone. He talked for a few minutes and afterwards thanked the Pope declaring it was the best three minutes he’d ever had and was extremely helpful!
A few months later, the President was visiting the Prime Minister of Israel and once again saw a red phone on his desk. He asked, is that the G-d phone? The Prime Minister confirmed and asked the President if he’d like to use it? Immediately, the President picked up the phone and spent a half hour getting advice. Afterwards, he thanked the Prime Minister and once again acknowledged that the call was invaluable; but, the President also shared that he was afraid to ask how much it was going to cost him? The Prime Minister told him it was 7 shekel.
The President asked, how many millions of dollars was that? The Prime Minister said it is about two dollars. Very confused, the President exclaimed that when he used the phone at the Pope’s office it was five hundred thousand dollars per minute. Why was it so inexpensive here?
The Prime Minister answered that in Rome it is a long distance call but here in Israel it is local!
[Note for those who are to young to remember: Phone calls that were long distance used to cost more than those that were local]
When generating leads of prospects for your business there are long distance leads that take a long time to develop relationships with and time is money and there are local leads whom you already have a relationship with and will respond to your offer more quickly.
The goal in generating leads or prospects that are high quality for your business is pipeline generation where over time you continuously move your relationships from long distance to local and have them asking to talk with you.
Pipeline generation – Fishing in the right pond
Let’s kick things off by exploring the types of people you might not have met yet – but should definitely know. You want to learn to identify the types of people that will be good prospects for you and concentrate on developing good relationships with them or you will waste a lot of time with people who were never a good prospect for you to begin with.
In a world full of infinite connections waiting to be made, it’s important to have the tools in identifying the best people you should know to add to your pipeline generation plan.
You should be looking to add two types of people to your pipeline:
Whether it’s a seasoned professional in your industry or an influencer with a wealth of knowledge, these individuals can offer valuable insights and mentorship. In this mini series, I’ll discuss how to identify the correct industries or ponds to fish in and how to learn who to reach out to and connect with.
I’ll guide you on how to identify potential collaborators who will be most receptive to your offer, are qualified for your needs, and establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
Marketing lead generation – The art of making new connections
Once we’ve identified the types of people you should know, let’s talk about how to actually meet them. Lead generation plays a crucial role in initiating meaningful connections.
The importance of expanding your circle by meeting people you may not have crossed paths with before is crucial to your success
We are going to look at several tools in the weeks to come and dive into daily activities to find the right prospects for you. Of course, to become an expert in any of these approaches you will need to continue to learn from a coach who has already done what you want to do and can help you avoid the mistakes they have already made and learn the techniques they have already mastered. If you would like to find out how I can help in this way just contact me.
Lead generation strategies
No one is an expert in everything, and The Rabbi Who Got Rich on Sunday is no exception. I will teach you what I have learned and continue to perfect by my own personal efforts. I suggest that after hearing an overview of the below techniques in this series you pick one that “talks” to you to become an expert in before moving on to the next. Tools and approaches we will cover in this series
Generating leads – Avoid shortcuts
Buying business opportunity seeker leads may seem like a good idea; however, they are going to suck away your time and money and burn you out as the vast majority of people who answer such lead generation ads are going to be people who need much more help to succeed than you will be able to provide. Gurus will offer you their course or tool but most of the time they will charge you a lot of money and in the end teach you to promote their business, not yours. Look for coaches who have a proven track record of helping people accomplish their goals not the goals of the guru.
Next week we will start our series on generating leads with an introduction into how to best develop strong relationships with those you don’t know yet..
