Social Media Marketing and How to Find Your Ideal Prospects

Episode Transcript

This episode is the second in our new mini-series, “Generating Leads – the highest quality for your business.”

Welcome to another episode of “The Rabbi Who Got Rich on Sunday” about living the dream through work life balance.  I’m Rabbi Dave and today we’re going to talk about Social Media and Marketing – find your ideal prospects.

Social Media Marketing Story

Recently my youngest daughter became married to a wonderful man from Edmonton Canada.  She had wanted to find her perfect husband and had carefully researched and over the course of many dates with many different young men had fine tuned her description of her perfect match to be very specific.

We tried every angle and contact we had but we were starting to think that this ideal young man just did not exist!

The man she married fit her ideals to our excitement and gratitude to the creator of the universe who used the power of a network to take over the job of finding this man in a “miraculous” way.

The power of your social network is not in the people you are connected with only.  Its exponential power is from the people you don’t know that they are connected with and the people that those 2nd degree “connections” are connected to.  I’m sure you have all heard the theory of six degrees of separation. Every person in the world is connected to you by at most five people in between.  I don’t know if this is one hundred percent accurate but the concept is.  Your ideal prospects that you have no idea who they are know someone who knows someone that knows someone that you know to some degree of separation.  If you can fine tune who you are looking for and cast your well constructed net (your profile) as wide as possible the social network universe will do the rest

So, how did my daughter find her soulmate?

Well, one of the wonderful young men suggested to her often and by several people did not match what she was looking for but was a close match for one of her friends.  She did not want to hurt his feelings so she went to a married acquaintance that knew both of them and asked her to arrange a match.  The married lady thought she might know someone for my daughter so she asked for her “dating resume.”  She showed this to the prospective young man who said that my daughter was not for him but he had a friend he thought was perfect.  That friend was not interested in dating but showed her resume to his best friend who immediately said yes.

That is how our daughter who grew up in Passaic NJ met her husband from Edmonton Canada who had both relocated to two very different communities in Israel!

That is the power of letting your social media and marketing expand your social network several degrees to find your ideal prospect!

Which social networking platforms have the most users

According to Hubspot’s research here are some interesting statistics:

  1. Social networking platform users numbered 4.8 billion globally as of April 2023.
  2. Of buyers in the U.S. and Canada, 42% research sellers who contact them by looking at their LinkedIn profile.
  3. Of salespeople, 47% say that social media and marketing offers the highest quality leads, coming second after referrals from existing customers.
  4. Of sales professionals, 55% harness social networking platforms to research prospects and/or their businesses, with LinkedIn being the most effective platform for this purpose.
  5. The leading social networking platforms used by salespeople to discover new prospects (as per HubSpot’s 2023 Sales Strategy & Trends Report) are:
      • 75% use Facebook
      • 51% use Instagram
      • 43% use LinkedIn
      • 41% use YouTube
      • 38% use Twitter
      • 27% use TikTok
  1. Of 18- to 29-year-olds, 71% say they use Instagram, 65% use Snapchat, and over 30% use TikTok
  2. 6 out of 10 LinkedIn users are between 25 and 34 years old
  3. For an older demographic use Facebook
  4. When should you publish on social media? According to the 2023 Global Social Media Trends Report by HubSpot and Brandwatch, here’s what social media marketers in the U.S. feel are the best timings:
      • Facebook: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
      • TikTok: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
      • Instagram: 12pm to 6pm
      • LinkedIn: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
      • YouTube: 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
      • Twitter: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I’ve experimented with all the social media options but it is important to become expert in one or two rather than spread yourself and your time too thin. So I first became an expert at LinkedIn and then Facebook and I will share highlights of what I’ve learned there that can be applied in all social networking platforms.

Your prime real estate – Linkedin profile (and facebook)

As the saying goes, you have one chance to make a first impression.  Take the time to build your profile with a great banner, quality picture of yourself, and the key words for your ideal prospect.  Create curiosity by not saying everything up front but making it easy for the prospect to be drawn into your profile to find out more.  Your about section should catch attention in the first line and make it very easy for the prospect to contact you in the fashion you want to be contacted.  Use the audio and video options to share your story and your unique selling propositions.  Feel free to look at my profiles, https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidfelsenthal/ https://www.facebook.com/davidfelsenthal https://www.facebook.com/consult15/ and of course https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100091059462498  as examples and contact me if you want a session on creating your effective profile on any social networking platforms.

Linkedin tips

  • According to HubSpot, LinkedIn is 277% more effective at lead generation than Facebook and Twitter. The reason for this is most likely because LinkedIn users are high-level decision-makers.
  • Build your network using the search features to find ideal 2nd degree contacts and request to connect with them with a short generic “i’d like to connect as I see we have things in common” message.  Limit your requests to 5 per day and 2nd degree so as not to make LinkedIn’s algorithm look at you as an abuser.
  • If you’re active on LinkedIn, focus on InMails. Of InMail responses, 65% arrive within 24 hours, and 90% arrive within one week.
  • However, avoid sending InMails over the weekend. According to LinkedIn, InMails sent on Saturday get 8% fewer responses than average. On Friday, the response rate is 4% below average.
  • Keep your LinkedIn messages short. Messages with 400 words or less have a 22% higher than the average response rate for all InMails.
  • One final InMail tip: Avoid bulk messages. InMails sent one at a time see around 15% greater response rates than those sent in bulk. Always include some detail from their profile to really get their attention!
