In podcast episode 46 of The Rabbi Who Got Rich on Sunday, we’re exploring the importance of personal development in achieving business success. This discussion includes why personal development is an overlooked and crucial component of reaching the level of success you are capable of.
The term “personal growth” is thrown around a lot, but today, we will explore why it’s not just a buzzword but the secret sauce that can take your business to greater heights.
My name is David Felsenthal, and I am The Rabbi Who Got Rich on Sunday. Every week on this podcast, we dive deep into the challenges and triumphs of being an entrepreneur, with a focus on home business or side hustle. In this podcast episode, we discuss how you can Boost Business Success with Personal Development.
I often meet people who are blessed with exceptional abilities. Yet, most don’t realize their full potential. Why is that?
It is as if their abilities are unreachable due to something only they can see or perceive. Everyone who meets them thinks they have everything needed to be a superstar, but no one understands why they don’t realize their potential.
Sarah falls into that category.
She was one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever mentored and, like many others, an ambitious entrepreneur. She had a solid business plan, worked long hours, and did everything by the book. But despite all her hard work, her business never took off!
Sarah couldn’t figure out why she wasn’t seeing the progress she felt she deserved.
One day, when we talked, I asked her a simple and direct question: “Sara, you are one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. I am just curious: when did you last invest in yourself?”
That question hit her like a ton of bricks.
She realized that while pouring everything into her business, she had neglected her most valuable asset—herself. That’s when things started to change.
She began to focus on her personal growth, and as she grew, so did her business. Today, Sarah’s business is thriving, and she is probably one of the best mentors of others I’ve ever met.
She credits that success to her personal development journey and my fateful question, which provoked her new focus.
So, what’s the takeaway from Sarah’s story? Personal growth isn’t just a feather in your cap but a cornerstone of your success.
Your business is a reflection of you, which is both the good news and the bad news. In other words, if you’re not where you could be regarding personal development, your business reflects that. If you are not helping yourself, that hurts you and those you could mentor more effectively.
The flip side is fantastic; as you improve, so does your effect on others, which compounds your business growth. Personal Growth and Business Growth are inextricably linked, as is your ability to mentor others.
Your personal development also affects your personal relationships. This means we can be a better spouse, parents, children, and friends when we are at or near our best selves!
What do the most successful entrepreneurs—like Tony Robbins or Oprah Winfrey—have in common? They’re relentless in their pursuit of personal growth.
They understand that to lead others, innovate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible, they must keep evolving. As we learned in a previous episode of this podcast when we quoted Stephen Covey, always be sharpening your saw!
Now, let’s dive into some key areas where personal growth can make a massive impact on your business.
Now, I know that personal growth can sometimes feel like a chore, so let’s make it fun. Here are a few engaging ways to integrate personal growth into your daily life:
General Advice on Integrating Personal Growth into Daily Life
Remember, consistency is key. Personal growth isn’t a one-time event; it’s a daily practice. Start with simple routines—like morning journaling, calendaring growth moments, or setting daily goals—that keep you focused on your growth.
Also, align your personal goals with your business objectives. When your self-improvement efforts are directly tied to your business goals, you’ll see a much greater impact.
So, how can you get started? First, take a moment for self-assessment. Where are you strong? Where could you improve? Tools like personality assessments or feedback from peers can be incredibly insightful. Look at my previous episode “Discover Strengths, Unique to You, In Order to Accomplish Your Goals” for many such tools I’ve recommended.
Make sure your goals are SMART goals for your personal growth—goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. These goals will give you a clear path forward.
And finally, seek out resources that align with your goals. Whether it’s books, podcasts, or mentors, there’s a wealth of knowledge out there waiting for you.
